There are two ways to book ticket: ‘Online via IRCTC website’ and ‘Offline via your nearest railway station’. Now the question arise how to and what to do in case if you need to cancel railway ticket? Here we are going to learn how to cancel the confirmed or under waiting list tickets.

 

 

Cancel Tickets via IRCTV Online Website

If you booked the ticket using e-ticket (irctc website) then you will have to access IRCTC website in order to cancel the tickets. Steps are given below to cancel railway tickets:

1) Visit official website of IRCTC website – www.irctc.co.in

2) Login to your account using your login details.

3) Click on ‘Booked Tickets’ located on Left Hand Side (LHS) of the screen.

4) Now you can see the list of tickets, choose particular ticket using radio button to proceed the cancellation.

5) Click on Cancel and confirmed.

The payment will be refunded to your account after successful cancellation of railway ticket. This can take 3 to 7 business day in order to reflect the refund amount. Please note that the amount will be refund to the same bank account that you used during booking the ticket.

Question: What is the cancellation charges for confirmed tickets?

Answer: If confirmed railway ticket is cancelled before 24 hours then below cancellation charges will be applicable.

for AC first Class: Rs 70

for AC 2 / 3 Tier Class: Rs 60

for Sleeper: Rs 40

Second Class: Rs 20

However if you cancelled the confirmed tickets  within 24 hours or before 4 hours of departure of the train then you will have to bear 25% as the cancellation charges from the net amount.

Again if you cancelled the railway ticket or e-ticket  within 4 hours of time then 50% of the amount will be considered as cancellation charges.

Cancel Ticket via Railway Counter 

Now, if you booked the ticket from railway station counter then you will have to visit to nearest Railway station, ask for cancellation form from the counter, fill up all the details along with Train No., Date of Journey, PNR no., etc details. Once these details are filled then you can submit the cancellation form to the Railway counter.
